Checking in and asking for information
Combine greetings, questions, times, and plans in a service encounter.
What you’ll work on
- Give reservation details.
- Ask about a place and a schedule.
- Use the information to make a simple plan.
A short conversation
Google voice when available; device voice as a fallback. Read along, then try each line aloud.
Bonsoir. J'ai une réservation au nom de Martin.
Good evening. I have a reservation in the name of Martin.
Bienvenue. Voici votre clé. Votre chambre est au deuxième étage.
Welcome. Here is your key. Your room is on the second floor.
Merci. Le petit déjeuner est à quelle heure ?
Thank you. What time is breakfast?
De sept heures à dix heures, au rez-de-chaussée.
From seven to ten, on the ground floor.
Très bien. Je vais prendre mon petit déjeuner ici demain.
Very good. I am going to have breakfast here tomorrow.
Give the necessary information
J’ai une réservation states that you have a reservation. Au nom de introduces the name. Use a fictional name for practice, then be ready to spell it if asked.
Votre means your in polite or plural address: votre chambre, votre clé. The plural form is vos: vos bagages. It agrees with the item possessed, not with the number of people you address.
Find the place and time
Le rez-de-chaussée is the ground floor. In France, le premier étage is the floor above the ground floor. The meaning of first floor differs across English-speaking regions, so use the French description carefully.
Ask Où est… ? for a location and à quelle heure for a time. De sept heures à dix heures gives a time range. Repeat an important detail to make sure you understood it.
Combine what you already know
You can describe a need with j’ai besoin de, ask a possibility with je peux, and make a plan with je vais. Choose the expression that serves your actual purpose.
Finish with one question about tomorrow. If the reply is too fast, ask for repetition and continue. Managing the exchange is part of the learning task; understanding every word on the first attempt is not required.

Practice questions
Try every question, then check your answers. Capital letters and punctuation do not affect your score. Accents and ç do matter.
Showing an answer makes that question a practice item worth zero for this attempt. Retry with the answers hidden when you’re ready. If audio cannot play, use Show answer / text to practice by reading.
Independent practice
These are independent practice tasks. The site does not record your voice, save your writing, or grade open-ended answers. Ask a teacher or conversation partner for feedback when you can.
Speaking practice
Act out a hotel check-in with an invented name. Ask about breakfast, a room, and a place you want to visit.
Writing practice
Write a short message with your location, one completed activity, and a plan for tomorrow.
Review the lesson objectives
Select the tasks you can complete independently. This self-assessment does not change your quiz score.
