Review: first conversations
Connect the skills from first conversations in a practical exchange.
What you’ll work on
- Recall familiar phrases without a word bank.
- Connect patterns in a practical conversation.
- Use a clarification strategy when needed.
A short conversation
Google voice when available; device voice as a fallback. Read along, then try each line aloud.
Bonjour. Vous venez de Paris ?
Hello. Are you from Paris?
Non, je viens de Montréal. Et vous ?
No, I am from Montreal. And you?
Je viens de Lyon.
I am from Lyon.
Excusez-moi, vous pouvez répéter plus lentement ?
Excuse me, can you repeat more slowly?
De Lyon.
From Lyon.
Merci. À bientôt !
Thank you. See you soon!
Choose a consistent form of address
Use tu with toi and vous with vous. For this review, rehearse a polite exchange from beginning to end before trying an informal version. Your first-person phrases stay the same when you change how you address the other speaker.
Make clarification part of the conversation
Close the translation and say a greeting, name, and origin from memory. At one point, pretend you missed a word, ask for repetition, and answer the repeated question. Use invented details and change them on a second attempt.

Practice questions
Try every question, then check your answers. Capital letters and punctuation do not affect your score. Accents and ç do matter.
Showing an answer makes that question a practice item worth zero for this attempt. Retry with the answers hidden when you’re ready. If audio cannot play, use Show answer / text to practice by reading.
Independent practice
These are independent practice tasks. The site does not record your voice, save your writing, or grade open-ended answers. Ask a teacher or conversation partner for feedback when you can.
Speaking practice
Hold a six-line polite introduction. Include a name, city, clarification request, and farewell.
Writing practice
Write an informal version of the same exchange. Check tu, toi, and the corresponding verb forms.
